When the November 2005 edition of National Geographic listed the people who were the healthiest in the world, I'm sure that most people thought that these people would live somewhere in the Himalayan Mountains or in some remote area in the world.  What a surprise (to many people) to find out that some of the healthiest people in the world  live right here in North America.  Of course they were found in many other areas of the world, but many of these these people have something in common...  They belong to the same Christian group and they all adhere to the ‘health message' of that group.  It's no secret.  I've known for many years that no matter who does the research, Seventh - day Adventist Christians who adhere to their 'health message', keep coming up among the healthiest people on the planet.  The reason why I've known about this long before the National Geographic article is that I am a Seventh - day Adventist Christian.

I was unfortunately one of the infamous ones who did not adhere to the health message.  At the age of forty-one, I got some bad news from my doctor after my annual check-up.  I was now a candidate for a heart attack or a stroke because my blood work showed that my cholesterol was high.   So my doctor put me on Crestor, to lower the cholesterol.  Well, the Crestor worked and it lowered my cholesterol .  I was given a diet and exercise plan from my doctor.  I was then taken off Crestor so I could implement the diet/exercise plan.  To my dismay, my next check up showed that my cholesterol went right back up.  So, I was put back on Crestor.  After a year my wife asked me, 'are you going to be on Crestor the rest of your life?'  I decided then that I must take action to rid myself of this potentially fatal condition.  I started studying more and more of all of the information that I could find. It is unfortunate, but when most Adventists who do not conform to the health message and  become sick, that's when they seek out the inspired word of the message they grew up knowing of along.  I was one of those people.

I began to implement the information I studied.  I stopped taking my cholesterol- lowering medication. (I don't advise this... I was being my own guinea pig) When I returned to the doctor, he was amazed.  He said 'your cholesterol is still low, but the weight loss I am seeing shows that you're in excellent condition.  We are taking you off this Crestor.'  What the doctor was talking about is that I lost thirty-three pounds in just over two months.

The weight loss was just a positive side effect of  my healthy practices.  Remember I wasn't trying to lose weight, and I wasn't eating small portions.  I was simply implementing some things successfully practiced for over one hundred and fifty-eight years.  It's remarkable what the body will do and how it will heal once you give it what it needs.
